The Living Language French - Platinum Edition learning program offers a strong French study program in one package. It is the perfect "next step" in French language self study after French in 10 Minutes a Day. This computer learning program includes audio CDs and apps to diversify French language teaching resources. This program is not designed as a passive listening education resource; it is not something to play in the background in order to learn the French language through subliminal learning osmosis. Rather, it is designed for students that want to actively study and learn French. And for them, it is a great resource.
In addition to teaching many basic language concepts, one great aspect of Living Language French - Platinum Edition is that it teaches several important verb tenses. In this way, it picks up nicely where French in 10 Minutes a Day leaves off. It presents how to express concepts in the past, present and future. As a consequence, it builds a terrific foundation for further learning through other media. After completing this course, the student should have a good scope of the French language, including many of its major differences from English (e.g. pronoun placement), and be able to communicate in the French language at a basic level.
Is Computer Learning For You?
Many computer teaching resources are just cumbersome versions of ordinary "book learning". Much material that can be presented in a clean, orderly fashion in a well-organized book becomes difficult to navigate and thus hard to use on a computer. The computer is not a panacea, but if done well it can make learning fun and less dry. For the money, Living Language French - Platinum Edition is a great way to gain a broad foundation in French, especially French verb tenses, before embarking on more detailed learning. Importantly, my next recommended French language "program" uses the computer almost not at all (except for watching the videos), but it is very entertaining. That resource is French in Action.
